Agriculture education in the classroom

What came first?  The chicken or the egg?

According to the Classroom Agriculture Program or “CAP,” some kids will ask what chickens have to do with eggs because they think eggs come from cardboard cartons.

As a result, CAP is wanting more kids in our province to take advantage of their program which teaches grade four students about the process of how food makes it from the farm to our plates.

Mark Francis the chair of CAP tells 660News, they would especially like to see more city kids taking advantage of the program.

He says “A lot of kids have no idea where there meat or vegetables or potato’s come from, especially kids that live in urban centres and even kids in our rural towns.  We’re just trying to teach them what we produce and where it comes from.”

Many of the volunteers with the program are either farmers, ranchers or agri-food experts.
