Canada a climate change lagger

For the sixth straight year Canada is near the bottom of a global survey examining efforts to battle climate change.

The UN’s Climate Change Performance Index ranks our country 54th out of 57.

Only Australia, Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia finished lower.

The survey , which is complied by a German environmental group, gathers input from close to 200 climate experts the world over and also considers things like goverment policy and actual emissions.

Environmentalists say they are not surprised by the ranking because Canada continues to be part of the problem, not the solution.

Clare Demerse with the Pembina Institute is in Cancun, Mexico covering the latest climate change talks.

Demerse tells 660News the hope is this latest gatheirng of environmental leaders will lay the groundwork for some concrete global climate change initiatives, complete with penalties for non compliance which will become law next year.
