Alberta’s Environment Minister talks climate change

Environment Minister Rob Renner is representing the province at the United Nation’s 16th annual Climate Change conference in Cancun, Mexico.

In an exclusive interview with 660News, Renner says it’s imperative any deal that is hammered out to reduce emissions includes all countries.

Environmentalists have blasted both the Canadian and provincial goverments for not doing more to reduce the country’s carbon footprint.

Renner says greening things up is not an easy thing to do, and if Alberta started cracking down on polluters, many of those companies would simply move their operations to places that have no restrictions on emissions.

He’s confident in time a deal that all world leaders can agree upon will be put in place.

Renner says in the meantime, work on more than $2 billion dollars worth of carbon capture and storage intiatives will continue in the province.
