One day after the U.S. based “No Tar Oilsands Coalition” announced a half-million dollar advertising campaign against Transcanada Corp’s proposed Keystone XL project, another U.S. based company has announced it will be unveiling a campaign to promote Canadian oil.
In January, the American Petroleum Institute will be taking out ads in newspapers, billboards and on television promoting Alberta’s oilsands.
John Kerekes is the Central Regional Director for the API and tells 660News, they plan to educate americans about the advantages of getting oil from Canada.
“Most of our folks don’t realize that Canada is already currently our Number 1 supplier of foreign oil,” says Kerekes. “So as we run into issues in other parts of the world, what better trading partner than our most reliable, most secure and vast energy partner, which would be Canada and particularly Alberta?”
Kerekes promises the advertising campaign will strike a chord with Americans.
“It’s going to really stress the importance of the Canadian oilsands to the U.S. economy, to jobs, to investment and energy security and energy supply diversity,” Kerekes continues. “The more we get from Canada, the less we have to get from other sources. Almost every one of the midwestern states has an enormous trade relationship with Canada. We’re very, very, very supportive of the U.S.-Canadian trade relationship.”
