House fire kills family pets

A fire in the southeast Calgary community of Chaparral has claimed the lives of two family pets.

The kitchen fire was called in this morning.   By the time firefighters arrived on scene, the family was out of the home.

Fire crews were able to get the fire under control shortly after.

The Calgary Fire Department’s Brian McAsey tells 660News the family is distraught over the loss of their pets.

“We understand that, in the family, pets are an important thing so the loss of those two family obviously is a profound loss,” says McAsey.

McAsey says the damage to the home is extensive.
