It’s Mount Royal’s 100th anniversary.
The university’s charter was signed Dec. 16, 1910.
Mayor Naheed Nenshi, who is also a professor at Mount Royal, told a crowd of over 300 students and faculty that 1910 was a special year.
“There was something in the water that year, something that allowed people to dream about the future, to dream about the kind of community that they wanted to create. Now, 100 years later, we see the same thing again, people dreaming of the future, dreaming of the city, of the province, of the country, of the world that they want to create, where they want to live, and the very, very cutting edge of that knowledge [is] happening right here, right now on this campus.”
Premier Ed Stelmach and the MP for Calgary Centre, Lee Richardson, were also at Mount Royal’s Ross Glenn Hall to congratulate the institution on its milestone.
Stelmach participated in a ceremonial puck drop for the occasion.
