Balancing the budget

The Canadian Taxpayer’s Federation says it’s time for Alberta Finance Minister Ted Morton to cut spending and balance the budget.

The CTF’s Scott Henning says on a per-person basis, spending in Alberta is second highest in the country and says despite the fact that the provincial government expects to be deficit – free by 2012, they’ll have a “big mountain to climb” if they don’t make some tough decisions.

Henning believes next years budget, which was thought to be around $1.1 billion dollars could be as high as $3.8 billion or higher, adding the
government’s plans to balance the budget don’t mean a thing unless action is taken.
