Police crack nine-year-old Calgary murder case

Calgary police are revealing more details about what led them to make an arrest in a cold case murder dating back nearly a decade.
Corinne Rita Belanger was found shot to death in her Temple home in 2001 after a coworker called police, worried because the woman had not shown up to work.
Police suspected the victim knew her killer because there were no signs of forced entry into her home, but they weren’t able to prove it until now.
Fifty-year-old Barry David Brown has been charged with second degree murder.
Brown was friends with Belanger’s ex husband.
Police tell 660News they were aided by advancements in DNA technology that allowed them to process small traces of DNA evidence.
Police also conducted additional interviews resulting in new evidence
Although authorities aren’t revealing the motive behind Belanger’s murder, family members say they’re relieved to hear of the arrest.
