2010 not a good year for the environmental movement

Environmentalists say the past year was memorable for all the wrong reasons.

The Executive Director of Sierra Club Canada tells 660News the past 12 months have not been kind to the planet.

John Bennett says nobody will soon forget the massive BP oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico or the numerous pipeline leaks in the US.

Bennett says environmental ministers also came up short when they recently met in Cancun, Mexico.

He adds, global economic concerns also worked against the environmental movement.

Despite all the setbacks, Bennett says environmentalists will keep lobbying for better regulations and policies to protect land, air and water in the coming year.
