Darryl Sutter steps down

After eight years with the Calgary Flames, Darryl Sutter has decided to leave and relinquish his duties of general manager and executive vice-president.
In a statement, Flames president Ken King says “Darryl has performed valuable service to the Calgary Flames organization for 8 years.”
“He was the leader that ignited a renaissance of Flames hockey, moving us from a non-playoff team to an organization that was viewed as a respected and popular contender each year.”
King says that he asked Sutter to step down.”The only concern he had in that process was what was best for the team and what could he do that would be helpful to the team.”
The next step for the team is to build on the legacy Sutter is leaving, which King calls a “very, very solid foundation.” King believes the core group of players will do plenty of damage before the season is over.
Assistant G-M Jay Feaster will serve as acting general manager.
King adds, “For the remainder of this season, Jay will be provided the opportunity to evaluate the team from the GM’s chair and build a long term plan.”
Meanwhile, Flames faithful tell 660News that they are not surprised by the move. Many of them expected something to happen, as the team has struggled for most of the season. All of the fans we talked to don’t actually know who Jay Feaster is, but trust he can do the job.
