A new program launched by the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association could soon revolutionize the way we look at the dinner table.
Executive Vice President Dennis Laycraft tells 660News, the Beef Information Exchange Service will allow consumers to see which province their beef purchase is from.
Until now, consumers at the local supermarket would only find the label “Canadian.”
“This all probably started close to four years ago, when we identified improving information flow as a top priority,” says Laycraft.
“By exchanging more information, through the industry, if there are particular customers out there, we’re better able to match people up in a certain way to fulfill their needs.”
Laycraft says by adding these improved assurances to the world as well, they’ll be able to command a premium over Alberta Beef.
According to Alberta Beef, 40 per cent of Canada’s cattle comes from the province.
