City fees go up today

As we begin to try and make good on our New Year’s resolutions, the city is sticking with theirs with fee hikes for a number of key services.
According to the Herald, owning a home, using public transit and city pools will cost Calgarians about 130 dollars more this year.
Adult transit passes are up $4.75 to 90 dollars a month.
Add that to the list of fee hikes which include waste, recycling, water and sewer and the average resident will pay more then double the 4.6% property tax increase promised for mid year.
A survey done in 2010 shows 71 percent of Calgarians would rather see fee increases then property taxes but that is down from 78 percent a year earlier.
