Turkey industry expects a festive 2011

Despite a couple of tough years, Turkey Farmers of Canada says they’re looking forward to what the new year will bring.

Spokesperson Phil Boyd tells 660News the last few years were difficult, having to reduce output from their industry high two years ago.

The recession also didn’t help matters.

“It backed up some sales and with the competing meats were in their particular markets, so the meat protein market was soft,” says Boyd.

However, a much busier holiday season has farmers and processors looking forward to what the new year might bring.

“Cause we’ve looked over the fall and we think we’ve turned a corner and are seeing some buoyancy back in the market place,” explains Boyd.

With those factors, he says it should bring about a much rosier 2011.
