Charges laid in New Year’s Day shooting

One suspect has been charged but police are still searching for another, after a shooting on New Year’s Day that killed one man and injured an innocent bystander.
Gunshots were fired downtown at 3rd Avenue and 3rd Street southwest early Saturday morning.
When police arrived on scene, they found one man on the street with gunshot wounds. The victim in his 30’s later died in hospital.
A second victim was discovered shot in a vehicle a block away. He is currently recovering in hospital in stable condition. Police don’t believe the man had any connection to the gunman.
Authorities have charged 22-year-old Godwin Bonney of Etobicoke, Ontario with attempted murder, aggravated assault, pointing a firearm, unauthorized use of a firearm and possession of a weapon obtained by crime.
Police are still searching for a suspect in connection to the fatal shooting of the fist victim discovered that night. He is described as a black man, 20 to 30-years-old, 5’8 to 6′ tall, with an average build. He had cornrows in short dreadlocks, and was wearing a light-coloured shirt and dark pants.
The name of the deceased won’t be released until an autopsy is completed on Tuesday.
