RCMP and Alberta Sheriffs crack down on intersection safety

Alberta RCMP and the Sheriff Integrated Traffic Unit are focusing their attention on intersection safety in the province this month.
Every year, lives are needlessly lost because motorists don’t always obey the simple rules of the road.
In 2008, RCMP say 89 people were killed and over 9000 injured in collisions at intersections in Alberta.
They say 90 percent of those are attributed to driver error.
Sheriff Inspector John Zee tells 660News, collisions at intersections are one of the main problems they deal with every year, accounting for nearly 30 percent of their fatal and serious injury calls.
He says drivers need to pay closer attention when behind the wheel, watch out for other vehicles and pedestrians, always come to a full stop, look both ways before proceeding and always be prepared for the unexpected.
