It’s a predicament many fear but police chief Rick Hanson says two young people couldn’t have handled it any better.

The pair were alone in their southeast home when intruders burst through their front door Tuesday afternoon.

Hanson says the boy and girl inside the home, both 12 years old, certainly had a difficult situation on their hands but managed to put themselves in a place that was safe.

They called 911 and gave clear information to the operator and for that reason, the Chief wants to nominate the pair for an annual award that goes to kids who call 911.

Hanson wants to make it clear, the situation was a break and enter and the home was not targeted in any way.

It’s believed the suspects fled when they realized there was someone home.
