Police have one man in custody and are looking for two more after a break and enter in the city’s southeast Tuesday afternoon.
Acting Staff Sergeant Mark Hatchette says the suspects had no idea that anyone was home when they attempted to enter a house in the 3000 block of 26A Street SE over the noon hour.
Two kids were inside the house and hid in a closet as they phoned 911.
CPS managed to arrest one man at the house but two others fled the scene on foot where they then stole a truck at a nearby construction site.
Police Chief Rick Hanson praised the two youngsters for their quick thinking saying,
“What they did showed they were really aware of what the right thing was to do, they stayed calm and hid themselves while they called 911.”
The kids bravery has put them in contention to possibly receive a Husky Heroes Award, a prize given to youth who display a tremendous amount of courage.
