We’re spending more than a month in our cars every year.
The latest edition of Maclean’s magazine took a look at the daily commute and a possible solution.
National Editor Arewy Coyne said that according to Statistics Canada, drivers are spending about 40 days a year behind the wheel.
For most people, public transit takes twice as long than driving, and car pooling just isn’t catching on.
Coyne said we need to take a better look at tolls.
“If we’re willing to pay a small amount per mile out of pocket, we will actually wind up saving ourselves a lot of time, aggravation and indeed money,” he said.
Coyne also said in some countries toll roads have cut congestion by 20 to 30 per cent.
