It’s like a beacon right in your eyes.
That’s how a Calgary police officer describes video footage of a laser beam flashed into the cockpits of planes flying in to Calgary International Airport Wednesday night.
Around 6 p.m. several reports came into police about the laser appearing to come from the Shawnessy Shopping Centre area.
The HAWKS helicopter and ground crews were sent to the area, but could not find whoever was pointing the device at planes.
Duty Insp. Paul Stacey says such stunts could have deadly consequences, because it disrupts the pilot’s operation of the aircraft and could jeopardize the lives of those on board as well as on the ground.
Police are hunting for a suspect. A man with a dog was seen leaving the area, possibly in a Jeep Cherokee.
Anyone with information about the laser pointing incident is asked to call police.
