A $200,000 campaign to re-brand the City of Calgary could be on the verge of being scrapped.
In the summer of 2009, an American company was given the contract to replace the city’s slogan “Heart of the new West.”
But the Herald reports with a new mayor and city council, as well as the controversy the project has created, the re-branding campaign might well be scrapped in the coming weeks.
Some critics say the contract for the campaign should have been awarded to a local company. Others, including Tourism Calgary’s George Brookman, feel there’s nothing wrong with the current slogan.
Critics also suggest that a proposed slogan by the U.S. marketing agency, Calgary: The Most Dynamic City in Canada, abandons the city’s western heritage.
