TransCanada re-opens

Highway One is now open all the way from Calgary to Medicine Hat, and the AMA describes the condition of the highway as Fair to Good.

The TransCanada was closed near Strathmore on Saturday, when hundreds of vehicles hit the ditch and a state of emergency was issued in the area.

RCMP Sgt. Patrick Webb tells 660News even though the weather is improving, drivers still need to be prepared for the worst.

“It is still winter driving conditions out there and we want people to be prepared if they do get stuck at all. They should be very prepared to stay there for hours,” he says.

Webb suggests anyone heading out on the highways bring along extra winter clothing and blankets, a working cell phone as well as food and drink.

Plus, have a candle in your vehicle.  He says with the window open a little bit, a candle can keep you fairly warm.
