Mounties shoot and kill suspected serial robber

A man believed to be in his sixties is dead after being shot by RCMP officers.
It happened after the man emerged from his vehicle following a dramatic traffic stop in downtown Canmore.
The shooting followed a string of three armed robberies in a 72-hour period in the rocky mountain town.
RCMP Sergeant Patrick Webb Tells 660News the man was waving a gun in a threatening manner when he was shot.
He was rushed to hospital where he later died.
Mountain FM’s Rob Murray says among other things, residents are expressing relief over the incident.
Murray says with three robberies in three days, a number of business owners were starting to worry.
Justine works at the Rocky Mountain Bagel Company on 8th Street in the town. She says most people believe the man who was shot didn’t live in Canmore.
The dead man’s identity won’t be released until an autopsy is performed later this week.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team has been called in to investigate.
ASIRT will determine if the use of deadly force by the officers involved was justified.
