United Way has record 2010

Even amid economic uncertainty, Calgarians dug deep in 2010.

The United Way has announced a record-setting campaign total of
$51.6 million that will be put back into local service agencies.

That’s an increase of more than four per cent over 2009.

United Way President Ruth Ramsden-Wood says there was cautious optimism heading into campaign because of the economy.

She says Calgarians came through though, in record numbers, setting a new standard in 2010.

“This is a huge milestone for us because it’s an important year for us to be able to have new dollars put toward the work we’re doing in the community,” says Ramsden-Wood.

She says local agencies funded by the United Way continue to see double and triple digit increases in demand for services.
