Leak at Gas station causing problems for some Bowness area home owners

Alberta Health Services has advised three Bowness families to consider leaving their homes, until a massive gasoline leak can be cleaned up from their neighbourhood.
Last May, the Gas-Plus station on Bowness road leaked 9,000 litres of gasoline into the ground, and air quality testing has turned up dangerous levels of benzene in the homes along Bow Crescent Northwest.
Brian Parsons lives next store to one of the affected homes, and though his air quality has been deemed safe, he worries that that could change over time. He says the health of his neighbours is the main concern, but he’s also beginning to wonder about the impact on his property.
“If your lot is full of gasoline who’s going to buy it or even have a look at it. So property values are really going to take a beating unless we can clearly get it cleaned up,” says Parsons.
Gas-Plus has been ordered to clean up the soil and arrange for future air quality tests. It’s a process that’s expected to last well into the spring.
