There’s finally some good news to report from the Trans-Canada Highway.
Highway 1 is open again from Lake Louise to Field, BC.
Highway 93 northbound has also re-opened from Lake Louise to Jasper.
Further west though, the highway remains closed between Field and Golden due to the high avalanche risk.
It could be back open by Wednesday, but the BC Ministry of Transport has low confidence in that.
Omar McDadi with Parks Canada tells 660News they’re working as fast as they can.
“We really appreciate the public’s patience and we want to get people back on the road,” he says. “We know that there’s a lot of travellers and visitors and commercial operators who need to use this important travel corridor and we’re doing everything we can to get it reopened in a timely fashion.”
