Thieves target vacant homes

A recent string of break and enters into vacant Calgary homes has police looking for help from the public.
Since November, 36 such incidents have been reported.
Police hoped to jog some memories with a Crime Stoppers re-enactment in the city’s south east Tuesday morning.
The construction manager for Morrison Homes says the last few months have been stressful.
“We’ve gone and look at projects where we’ve had to spend upwards of 20 to 30 thousand dollars to repair damage after water pipes have been left on, after appliances have been removed and things like that,” he says.
The company is just one of several builders that have been victim to a recent break-in.
Constable Pete Barker tells 660News the type of suspects they’re looking for are very organized.
“They have the ability to be able to call someone fairly quickly and get the stolen property away from the house very quickly,” says Barker.
He urges anyone who sees a suspicious vehicle outside a vacant home to call police immediately.
