Avalanche victim remembered

He had hiked the Matterhorn and loved his Chevy Chevette.
Friends are remembering a Calgary man killed in an avalanche in Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park near Nelson, B.C.
Manfred Rockel, 46, was an avid climber and backcountry skier who, according to an ex-girlfriend, didn’t take unnecessary risks.
A statement from his friends says he volunteered as a ski patroller at Lake Louise for a number of years and was trained in avalanche safety.
Rockel worked as a reservoir engineer in the oil and gas industry.
