The economic heads of Canada’s largest cities are meeting in Ottawa this week, and the country’s energy industry is a hot topic.
“It’s one of the strategic opportunities that Canada has, not only from the standpoint of selling energy to other parts of the world, but also developing technology and solutions that are going to be required in a world that’s needing more energy than less,” Bruce Graham, the head of Calgary Economic Development tells 660News.
Whether it’s hydro-electric in the Bay of Fundy, fossil fuels in Alberta or nuclear energy in Ontario, Graham says everyone recognizes energy is an important resource, and green energy is what’s now in vogue.
“All cities are looking at their energy industry, clean technology industry, and looking at the opportunities to grow this segment their economic base,” adds Graham. “It’s high on everybody’s priority list.”
Graham says Calgary is a green energy leader, but adds city officials can do a better job in telling that story to the rest of the world.
Graham also says he and his colleagues in Ottawa are talking about using energy in a more efficient way.
