The axing of a $1-billion grant program poses huge risks to medical research in this province.
That’s according to Quentin Pittman with the Hotchkiss Brain Institute at the University of Calgary.
The 33-year-old Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research has now been abolished by the ruling Tories.
It leaves the jobs and pay of around 250 elite researchers in jeopardy.
Pittman tells The Calgary Herald the program has brought hundreds of doctors to the province and it axing will likely affect the quality of care Albertans get.
