Alleged terrorist arrested in Edmonton

A 38-year-old man accused of conspiring to kill American soldiers is scheduled to make his first court appearance Thursday.
The RCMP arrested Sayfildin Tahir Sharif Wednesday morning without incident.
The FBI says he also goes by the names of Tahir Sharif Sayfildin and Faruq Khalil Muhammad Isa.
It’s alleged the man, who holds both Canadian and Iraqi citizenship, supported a multinational terrorist network that conducted multiple suicide bombings in Iraq, as well as bombings that killed five American soldiers outside a military base in Mosul in the spring of 2009.
The Calgary Herald reports the work of the insurgent bombers was described as a
“harvest of metal and flesh.”
The accused also wanted to be a suicide bomber himself and told his mother that
his greatest wish was “to die a martyr and be greeted by 70 virgins in paradise.”
The case against Sharif is based on Canadian court-ordered wiretaps and search warrants.
The Mounties have apparently been working on the case for about a year.
The United States will be seeking his extradition and that process will begin Thursday in Edmonton court.
