Chinatown wraps up centennial celebrations

Chinatown is wrapping up its 100-year anniversary celebrations this weekend, by ushering in the Year of the Rabbit.

Ward 7 Alderman Druh Farrell tells 660News it’s been an exciting year for Chinatown, as well as the whole city.

“We saw so many different groups, like the Zoo, One Yellow Rabbit, the Glenbow [Museum], Heritage Park and the Stampede come together,” she says. “It’s really brought a whole bunch of groups together.”

Farrell and Mayor Naheed Nenshi are attending at a “white hat” ceremony Friday night at the Chinese Cultural Centre.

That’s where nine community leaders will be honoured for their contributions to Chinatown.
