Amanda Brownlie, an Environmental Specialist with the city, tells 660News by, “Installing low flow shower heads, replacing regular light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs and using power bars for computers and other electronics will assist in lowering the amount of energy a home consumes.”

She adds, proper installation of these items could lead to lower energy bills.

“Home energy accounts for about 20 per cent of your total energy bill, so any simple things you can do around your home to reduce your energy costs is good for you and your environment.”
