Enmax summit in the works

Calgary’s mayor wants to stage what he calls an Enmax summit to clear the air about the beleaguered city-owned utility.
Last week the CEO of Enmax, Gary Holden, tendered his resignation.
The move followed a revelation that Holden accepted an all-expense-paid trip to Monaco in 2008. The German company that picked up the tab eventually won a contract from Enmax.
The former chairman of Enmax knew about the trip but others on the board, including the two representatives from city council, did not.
Mayor Naheed Nenshi says now is the time to review governance issues at Enmax and the role city council should play.
Mount Royal University political scientist Duane Bratt tells 660News there are hopes the summit will look at the possibility of privatizing the electricity giant.
The reputation of Enmax has taken a pounding over the past few months with revelations that the company staged private rock star parties.
In December Forbes magazine named Holden among their top 10 CEO screw ups of 2010.
