Siksika native leader remembered

A wake ceremony is planned for Tuesday to honour a Siksika Nation spiritual leader whose family teepee has been a fixture of the Calgary Stampede for years.
Raymond Crowchief, 65, and his wife Angeline died after their vehicle was hit near Strathmore during the vicious snowstorm that shut down the TransCanada earlier this month.
Crowchief’s niece, Lillian, tells The Calgary Herald Raymond was a kind man and a strong advocate for the Siksika Nation community.
He had many grandchildren, was featured on the 1977 Stampede poster and served as a Native liaison to the Calgary Police Service.
