Have you ever heard of Group-on? How about Wag-Jag?
They are daily coupon websites and they’re having a big effect on how Canadians, Americans and Brits are buying goods and services on-line.
“It’s basically people coming together and buying services that otherwise would be obscenely expensive,” Vision Critical Vice President Mario Canseco tells 660News. “There are a few websites where you can do this. The one that is definitely being used the most is the one called ‘Group On,’ which is fairly big in Canada, the U.S. and the U.K. as well.”
A Vision Critical survey shows about 35 per cent of Canadians have taken advantage of group buying websites at one time or another. But what women buy — and what men purchase — often are two different things.
“Women, both here in Canada and in the U.K., are using group buying to get spa, cosmetic and salon discounts,” says Canseco. “So it’s interesting that those two separate groups of consumers out there, one of them is interested in basically paying less for chicken wings and a beer, and the other, the women, are more interested in going into a spa.”
The websites offer consumers daily deals at great prices, often at less than half of the price you would pay in a store for the product or service.
