Committee votes to remove fluoride from water supply

A committee has voted 5 to 1 to recommend removing fluoride from Calgary’s water supply.

The decision comes after a busy day where over 40 people, including medical professionals, came out to voice their opinion on Wednesday.

Before the vote, a motion to send the debate to a health panel was defeated 3-2.

Head of the committee, Alderman Ray Jones tells 660News, he doesn’t agree with the recommendation and believes the topic should be exhausted, including discussions with a health panel before a final decision is made.

Jones adds of all the people who spoke out, including those that sent in e-mails, 3 to 1 said they were “for” the fluoride being taken out.

City council will have the final say whether or not to remove fluoride and they’re expected to vote at their meeting on February 7th.
