Keystone XL pipeline project get thumbs up

The American Petroleum Institute is urging the U.S. State Department to quickly approve the controversial Keystone XL pipeline project.
Citing energy security, economic growth and job creation, the API calls the the multi-billion dollar development a “no brainer.”
The manager of refining issues with the API says the pipeline project would create tens of thousands of jobs without impacting taxpayers because it’s backed by private investment.
Cindy Schild says if the U.S. doesn’t buy oilsands oil somebody else will.
Schild’s also says environmental arguments against the project are overblown.
She says the U.S. and Canada have some of the best environmental standards in the world and greenhouse gas emissions are well managed.
About half of the 2.3 million barrels of oil a day the U.S. imports from Canada comes from the oilsands.
The Keystone XL pipeline would boost that number dramatically, getting oilsands crude down to the U.S. Gulf Coast for refining.
