Ted Morton resigns from cabinet

Ted Morton has resigned from cabinet to seek the leadership of the PC party.

Morton, Stelmach and new Finance Minister Lloyd Snelgrove addressed reporters Thursday afternoon.

Morton says he gave the Premier his resignation letter because running to lead the party, while also being the Finance Minister, would be a conflict of interest.

Ed Stelmach has earlier stated anyone wanting his job should resign from cabinet.

We are also learning a bit more about when the Premier will be leaving office, after his sudden resignation announcement Tuesday.

He says he will submit his letter of resignation to the PC party following the spring session of the legislature, saying there is work to be done, including bringing down a spring budget.

The Premier is also dismissing those inside accounts of division in the Tory party, stating that Morton supports the party and this budget.
