Three Calgary aldermen want the city to expand the free zone for the downtown LRT.
Andre Chabot, Diane Colley-Urquhart and Ray Jones say expanding it to include the Stampede station would help attract major conventions.
They say it would allow patrons to ride from downtown hotels to the BMO Centre.
The trio feel the benefit to the city economically would make up for the estimated $2-million in revenue lost by Calgary Transit.
The idea, which has been brought up and shot down before, will be proposed again at the February 7th meeting.
If approved, they’d like to have the change in place by May.
