City roads had crews out all night, plowing and sanding the major thoroughfares in Calgary.
Despite that, drivers are in for a shock after a week of warm, sunny conditions that left many roads in the city bare and dry.
City Police tell 660News there has been a spike in accidents with police attending to16 injury and about 150 non-injury accidents between 9:00 Friday night and 5:00 Saturday evening..
As for the highways, the Trans-Canada, west of Calgary is reporting fair conditions and poor conditions are being reported from Calgary city limits to highway 22.
The Mounties are advising against travel east of Calgary. They report a number of vehicles hitting the ditch, Friday night, as well as a number of crashes. Icy conditions and blowing and drifting snow are the villains.
As for Highway 1 west of the city, the AMA says the Banff-Canmore region is in poor shape.
