Distracted drivers pulling in profits for BC

Those talking or texting on their phones while behind the wheel are ringing uo big profits for the BC government.
The province launched its ban on the use of cell phones while driving last year.
The Calgary Sun reports between February and December, 2010, police handed out 32,665 tickets and $5-million in fines.
An official says the funds collected are funneled into public safety programs.
Here in Alberta, the province will roll out some of the most comprehensive distracted driving legislation in the country by mid-year.
It will allow police more flexibility to deal with everything from texting behind the wheel to eating while driving.
