Taxis could soon wait at fire hydrants

Taxis might soon get the green light to park in front of fire hydrants.
The city’s traffic department is looking at letting cabbies wait there for possible passengers, but no one else would be allowed to park or wait at a hydrant.
The move could triple the number of available downtown taxi stands during peak hours.
Traffic Manager Troy McLeod tells The Calgary Herald they’ll put in rules to make sure cabbies stay with their vehicles if they’re near a hydrant.
The fire department says they’re open-minded to the proposal.
