Lawsuit launched over deadly basement fire

A lawsuit has been filed by the families of three young people who died in a house fire in Calgary two years ago.

The families of Tiffany Cox, Jonathan St. Pierre and Colleen Mantei have launched the suit against the landlord of the house where they rented the basement.

There was no working smoke detector in the suite and security bars were bolted to the window, trapping the three in the smoke and flame-filled basement.  One other woman did manage to get out alive.

The owners of the building have already been fined $90,000 for safety violations.
