The lawyer for a Calgary tech company wants Health and Safety Act charges against the firm dropped.
XI Technologies is on trial for the death of a 22-year-old employee struck by a lever from a cow roping ride during a 2007 Stampede party.
In his opening statement, the defence lawyer argued the company should not be held accountable to ensure the protection of workers at a party.
The trial is scheduled to last five days.
