Homicide victim laid to rest

Calgary’s latest homicide victim has now been put to rest in his home country.

Joel Zalsos, 36, was found dead in his northwest home January 4th by his wife.

He had just moved here from the Philippines a few weeks before to start a new life and rekindle his relationship with his wife.

Zalsos was laid to rest in his homeland on January 28th in a ceremony where up to 700 people attended. Others were turned away because there was too little space in the church.

The victim’s brother tells the Herald it shows that Joel was loved by people there.

The Calgary Homicide Unit continues to investigate the death, but so far no arrests have been made.
