The province’s energy minister says there are a couple of good reasons why there is so much red ink on the government’s ledger.
Ron Liepert says depressed natural gas prices and the high flying loonie have taken a big chunk out of the province’s revenue.
Liepert adds while the next budget will show the province is running a deficit, Albertan’s are not in debt.
He says the province managed to put billions of dollars in the bank before the recession.
Liepert says the recent economic downturn reinforces the need for the province to review it’s social spending adding taxpayers also need to determine exactly what they expect and want from the government.
The next provincial budget will be tabled on February 24th, 2011.
