City council approves airport tunnel

After hours of debate, council has voted 8-7 in favour of going ahead with the airport tunnel.

Aldermen went back and fourth for several hours, including a lengthy in camera session behind closed doors, where a confidential report received over the weekend was discussed.

Mayor Naheed Nenshi says the issue wasn’t one that should divide council, thanking aldermen for being people of principle and asking tough questions.

It will cost almost $300-Million-dollars to build the tunnel and it will be one of the biggest transportation projects in the city’s history.
