Coyotes are a menace to more than just bunnies and mice; they’re causing some heart-stopping moments at the Calgary airport.
Over the past seven months, the wily predators are blamed for 26 incidents, including forcing flights to abort takeoffs and landings.
A spokesman with the Transportation Safety Board tells The Calgary Sun that hitting an animal the size of a coyote can cause significant damage to an aircraft.
The man in charge of pest control at the airport says they conduct perimeter patrols to seal holes in fences and fill in any dens they find.
Despite how often coyotes venture onto runways, he knows of only one case where one was hit by a plane at YYC.
