Snow shovelling complaints on the rise

It’s been a banner year so far for complaints about Calgarians not shoveling their sidewalks.
The 3-1-1 line has logged nearly 9,000 calls this winter, and we haven’t even hit the snowiest part of the season.
Bylaw Boss Bill Bruce tells 660News they’ve also had nearly 300 calls about people slipping and falling, some where an ambulance had to be called.
“EMS was called 25 times in the past week. With the snow and all the melting it has made things extremely slippery. This is a concern for this week as the weather is going to be mild by the weekend. Snow that has been packed down that hasn’t been shoveled is going to turn to ice.”
Bruce says Bylaw Officers will first will give you a warning, then come back and check if it’s clear. If it’s not clear, the sidewalk is shoveled, usually at a charge of about $150 dollars to the homeowner.
Last winter, there were about 13,000 sidewalk complaints.
