Emaciated puppy sold for profit

The Calgary Humane Society is putting out a warning to dog owners after discovering a case of puppy neglect.

The organization’s Desiree Arsenault tells 660News an owner who couldn’t keep two Bichon-cross puppies unwittingly gave them away over a website to someone who sold them for a profit.

Now, one of the puppies has turned up emaciated and in very poor condition.

“This is disturbing…Honestly, you see these people who have good intentions of trying to re-home their animals and then there are those other people out there that are just trying to make a profit.   They will take these ‘free to a good home’ animals, turn it around a few months later and sell them for a tidy sum,” says Arsenault.

She says situations like this can be avoided if owners just turn their animals over to the Humane Society, where they’ll be safe.

Kudos are going out to the woman who bought the emaciated puppy in order to get him help and file a complaint against the seller.

An investigation is underway while the Society tries to track down the puppy’s sibling.
